An expatriate assignment regardless of which destination is involved affects both children and adults The countdown to the actual moving day is a stressful time for everyone.

During that period you may not have extra time for your children. However try to involve them as much as possible from the beginning with the move. If they are prepared well to move, the actual acceptance of the new situation will be less difficult.
Relocation Eindhoven does have some interesting video’s to see together with your children. Also invite the friends to see the video. A positive reaction from the friends will resonate within your child.

Day care: (Kinderdagverblijf) public day-care for children aged 6 weeks to 4 years. Centers are generally open from 8:00-18:00 hrs.

Dutch Primary Education:
Education can start at 4 years old. But form 5 years old you have to sent your child to school. Primary schools are either faith-based, non-denominational or state-owned. Faith-based primary schools are often also attended by non-religious children. The curriculum is broad and progress is monitored by standard testing (Cito). The results of this test will advise you which form of secondary education is the most appropriate. The school year starts in August and is broken up by holidays. All primary schools are closed on Wednesday afternoons.

Dutch Secondary Education
Secondary education normally starts at age 12 and continues to 16 or 18.

The options are:
  • VMBO (pre-higher secondary education)
  • HAVO (senior general secondary education)
  • VWO (pre-university education)
